Running Deep exhibition
I had an exhibition with Detour from 25 of Nov to 11 of Dec. The exhibition has finished. I have uploaded images of my exhibiting space- Running Deep.
The work:
a moment of change, 2011, inkjet prints
The environment influences and effects the reflection for us to see the reality clearly.Change doesn’t happen over night. It takes time and from time we see growth, progress and difference. Slowly the change occurs, subtly.
Each image shows a moment of change and a passage of time.
The work:
letting go, 2011, video installation ( still images from video)
During autumn, leaves fall one by one, the tree becomes nude, getting ready to start a new cycle. The work is my imagination of the process of decisions and letting go. The work plays with time, speed and still/moving images, layering different video footage together. Over the 1: 30 min video, one can only tell the different stages by the movement and speed of the water dropping. The piece is on a loop. It ends and starts the same way: a cycle itself.
The work:
the unknown, 2011, prints on tracing papers
* indicating that the removal of one subject can allow for the appearance of another ” by Vincent Katz on Robert Rauschenberg
By erasing ( clearing/ washing) the image with water, a white washed-off space is left behind. A new image is formed at the end. The act is not neglectful, but acknowledges the past and lets it go. By doing so then something else can enter. When things are washed away, a space is created to be filled, by what, we don’t yet know.
Written by me on the wall:
a huge thank you to everyone who came to see my exhibition, thank you for leaving all the comments, messages and showing your support in any ways. I feel loved and supported. xxx
The comments that people left behind are so inspiring, i am surprised and interested to see how one look at the work and create their own interpretation.
* Dear Zoe, thank you for your comment, can you please clarify your question?
* more comments will be posted soon

I am exhibiting a new collection of work including experimental images and video with sound at DETOUR 2011.
Running deep
photographs and video installation
From the day we are born till our death, our bodies change according to time, events and actions. Nothing we can see of ourselves will last: only our emotions and past memories that we have experienced will be inside us forever.
Nothing stays, except the remnants of our feelings from those times.
This work is about the passage of time and changes in different stages of letting go of a part of the self, moving on and starting a new cycle, finally to see oneself clearly.
It is a process.
Using the autumn leaf to represent a part of oneself, (the fragment that is about to let go), a natural moment in the cycle of a tree. The leaf is ready to fall, leaving the tree exposed to the world.
The work uses the natural effects of water to illustrate this idea. As water, in whatever form – rain or tears – washes off the surface and leaves what’s underneath exposed.

I had a photography portfolio review with Tokyo Graphic Passport in Pompidou museum ( PARIS) in Sept 2011.
The work that i have shown:
Life starts from a single point.
The point chooses its journey. Eventually returning to its origin, experiencing what happens in that time.
A point can have any duration or dimension. It defines an exact location or period.
Blooming series:
Taken in Tokyo during the Sakura season, the flower Sakura is known for its extreme beauty when it is in bloom for a short period of time. The beauty of the scenery is captured on black and white film. Exposing the film through Japanese rice paper where the detail and texture of the paper can only be seen after it’s exposed in the darkroom. I use this point in the flowers’ life as a metaphor suggesting that we shouldn’t concentrate on the final destination, but savour specific moments.

“and the sun goes down” art book, No. 7, 8, 9
Just because we saw the sunrise doesn’t mean it’s a beginning of a day.
I have no pre- designed narrative in mind; no beginning nor ending, just different moments in life. Each book is compiled one-by-one myself with the same images, so the order of pages in each piece is different. The experience is unique for each reader and allows them to imagine their own story.
* it was a pleasure meeting everyone and an opportunity to show my work. Thank you for all the support and love, i couldn’t ask for more.

and the sun goes down- art book
Book Description:
There isn’t a particular way of viewing the images in this book, as there isn’t a narrative nor is this book telling a singular story. All the moments are captured in between. Just because we saw sunrise, doesn’t mean it is the beginning of a day.
This book is unique and has been compile personally by me. The order of the pages in each book is different, but the layout of each series of the images are the same. All images have been captured using film and toy cameras. Not knowing how the images will come out excites me. Photography to me is a very spontaneous and instant act. Photography captures glimpses of reality, but not necessarily the truth. It is an art of illusion.

After Blooming ( 2011), is a continue series of work exploring the spirit of the sakura flower. By painting on the Blooming photograph series, i created a series of moving still images, the new works are illustrating what happened to the flowers after blooming, the relationship between the life and death of the flower, the cycle.

The UNKNOWN
“The unknown” is what makes film and experimental photography so beautiful and unique.

About my WORK:
A week ago, i dropped my films off in a film store. When i went to pick it up, the woman said to me “are you sure you want the negatives, as they are all out of focus, blurry, and not in the right format.”
I guess that explain the style of my work in a way.
I have always been playing around with images in a non traditional way but based on a traditional method.
I will keep on going.
